Potatoes Au Gratin Recipe Step by Step Guide 

A classic Potatoes Au Gratin dish that will captivate you. These are great for holiday tables or Sunday dinners. Cheese, Parmesan, and creamy sauce on thinly sliced potatoes.   

– ¼ cup butter – 1 medium onion – 3 cloves garlic – ¼ cup all-purpose flour – 1 cup chicken broth – 2 cups whole milk – ½ teaspoon salt  – ½ teaspoon pepper  – 1 tablespoon fresh thyme  – 3 pounds potatoes  – 2 cups white cheddar cheese  – ½ cup Parmesan cheese

Heat the oven to 350°F. Lightly coat a 9x13-inch casserole dish with cooking spray. Over medium-low heat, melt butter in a medium skillet.

Cook onion and garlic for 3 minutes to soften. Sprinkle flour on onion and garlic and stir. Cook 2 more minutes.

Add the milk and chicken broth gradually while stirring constantly to thicken. Blend until silky.

While whisking, bring to a boil over medium heat. Add pepper and salt for seasoning.

Arrange a single pound of potato slices in the bottom of the casserole dish that has been prepared.

Evenly sprinkle about ½ cup of the cheddar cheese and ⅓ of the sauce over top. Continue by adding another layer of potatoes, ½ cup of cheddar, and ⅓ of the sauce.

The leftover potatoes, sauce, cheese, and Parmesan. Cover the casserole dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.

Remove the aluminium cover and bake for 45 minutes until golden brown and potatoes are fork soft.

If needed, broil for two minutes until desired golden brown. Add fresh chopped thyme and serve with your favourite meat.
