French Apple Cake Recipe 

Enjoy your love of apples with this simple but classy French Apple Cake! 

INGREDIENT

– 3/4 cup + 2 tablespoons (105g) all-purpose flour – 3/4 teaspoon baking powder – Pinch of salt – 4 large apples, peeled and chopped into 1- to 2-inch chunks* – 2 large eggs, at room temperature – 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar – 3 tablespoons dark rum – 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract – 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted and cooled

Heat the oven to 350°F. Butter an 8-inch springform pan thickly. Put on a parchment-lined rimmed baking sheet.

INSTRUCTIONS

Mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. Whisk eggs until foamy. Add sugar and whisk for a minute to combine. Add rum and vanilla and whisk. 

Step 2

Whisk in half the flour. Gently mix in half the melted butter, then the remaining flour, and finally the remaining butter. Batter should be thick and smooth.

Step 3

Add apples to batter and coat well. Place batter in pan and spread evenly. Bake for 50–60 minutes until the top is golden brown and a thin knife inserted into the centre comes out clean.  

Step 4

Let the pan cool for 5 minutes on a rack. First, knife the cake edges, then remove the pan sides. Serve warm or room temperature.
