Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis is Finally Coming Out

Well-known director Francis Ford Coppola talked about his plans to make a movie he's had in his head since the 1980s almost five years ago.

He even tried to make it in the early 2000s, but 9/11 stopped him because he thought it would be rude. But after twenty years, he's finally finished Megalopolis. It will be released later this year.

Coppola stated on a recent episode of the Accutron podcast that the movie would be shown in theaters "a few months" after finishing post-production.

When filming for the movie was over in March 2023, it reached a short-term deal with SAG-AFTRA in August so that reshoots could be done while Hollywood was on strike.

Coppola said this about the new movie: "unusual and never boring." Besides that, we'll have to wait and see. Megalopolis is both an epic sci-fi drama and a love story.

Adam Driver plays Caesar, a planner who wants to make New York City a utopia again after a "devastating disaster." People say that his lover's father has a more traditional view of society, which goes against his more radical views.

Among the other actors in the movie are Forest Whitaker, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LeBeouf, Laurence Fishburne, and Nathalie Emmanuel.

Coppola faced issues creating Megalopolis. The film is her first since 2011's Twixt. Last year, it was reported that the movie had spent more than its $120 million budget and that production designer Beth Mickle and VFX supervisor Mark Russell had resigned.

Coppola and Driver denied those charges. Driver called it "one of the best shooting experiences I've had." However, Coppola films like Apocalypse Now and Bram Stoker's Dracula may be unorganized, as other news sites have noted.
